Daily Photo – Dunedin on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

I was exploring Dunedin on one of those quiet Sunday afternoons when the weather slowly seemed to engulf everything in its path. The hills of the Otago Peninsula were still visible, but only just, gradually disappearing behind a curtain of mist and low rain clouds.
From where I was standing, the spire of First Church rose above the city, its stonework looking particularly impressive against the slate-grey sky. It’s one of those buildings that seems to turn up in almost every view of central Dunedin, and for good reason. It is difficult to miss. What caught my attention, though, was the way the weather had changed the whole character of the city. The modern glass buildings reflected what little light there was, while the older Victorian buildings below seemed to retreat into the gloom.
There wasn’t much happening. It was Sunday, after all. The streets were quiet, the harbour was almost still, and the rain was slowly swallowing the hills.
