Daily Photo: Boatsheds near Port Chalmers

There’s something quite wonderful about the typical Kiwi boatshed. I find them simply delightful, although I have no idea why! I’m not exactly into boats or sailing. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was in or on one (a boat or a boatshed, that is). However, despite this, whenever I see one, I can’t help feeling a touch of national pride.
I think it has something to do with their uniquely individual character. I’m yet to see one that isn’t weather-beaten, with peeling paint and looking as though it’s just one good high tide away from being washed out to sea. Yet, for all the battering they take, they remain proudly standing, waiting for the wind to blow, their owner to set sail and the next adventure to begin.
