Fenceline In The Ida Valley

Daily Photo – Fenceline in the Ida Valley

Driving through the Ida Valley during a recent snow dump, the scenery shifted dramatically. About 15 minutes before reaching Oturehua, the sharp blue sky vanished, dissolving the landscape into a ghostly white.

I took this around 3 pm, but with the temperature hovering at a freezing −5°C, there was no warmth left in the air. The heavy hoar frost and low mist drained every trace of colour and sound, leaving only absolute silence. The icy fence line is the only anchor guiding the eye through the haze, making Central Otago feel less like home and more like the edge of the world.
