Daily Photo – Early Morning Rain In The City

At one point, this street was the busiest in New Zealand, which is kind of crazy to think about when you see it empty in the early morning hours. I came across this part of town one morning as rain showers drifted through, coating everything in a light sheen.

Time of day can have a dramatic impact on mood, giving places a completely different feel in the morning than they have at night. Predawn light has a crispness of its own, quite different from the softer, moodier light of evening.

Of course, there is another side to photographing places at that hour. Standing there in the half-light, camera on a tripod, you can’t help wondering, what the heck am I doing up at this ungodly hour?
