Daily Photo – Dunedin Railway Station in ANZAC Square

They really knew how to construct buildings back in the day. Take the Dunedin Railway Station. When you’ve seen it once or twice, it’s easy to stroll by and not take much notice of it; however, if you stop and really take the whole building in, it really is quite impressive.
It’s the sort of building that seems to have been designed with the assumption that people might actually stop and look at it. There are towers, arches, columns, elaborate stonework and enough decorative detail to keep your eyes wandering around the place for quite some time. Even the garden that now sits in front of it feels like it belongs in front of a grand country estate rather than a railway station.
